This is the first part of the overall UI update where we are going to introduce the new layout, theme, fonts, icons, and colors. The second part is #53.
UI Update Project
We are working on a new UI update to make navigation easier in Scrintal.
How will this change the users’ experience?
In the current version of Scrintal, the user gets greeted with a blank white screen. It is hard to actually give the user an idea where the user currently is at. The only navigation was the archive search, which was housing tags, cards, boards, it basically was a dashboard of the content created in Scrintal. A sidebar as the main navigational layer in a tool is a logical and structured UI element to give the user an idea of the available views and menu elements. Since Scrintal is a minimal and distraction-free tool, we wanted to keep it like that. The beauty about a sidebar is the fact that it can be closed or expanded at any time, which means it is not disrupting the user’s creative space. With the sidebar we are also giving the user some sort of customisation possibilities since users can pin their most-used cards and boards to the sidebar for quick access. The “All Cards” view will give the users the possibility to search through all the cards that have been created. Besides that, users can quickly create a new board out of a selection of cards, or drag and drop a single card or multiple ones onto a pinned board or the “My Desk” view. The meta information of the cards will give the users some more context and information about the cards, on top of that, there will also be dedicated filter options available to always find what a user is looking for. Ultimately, the sidebar will give the user a clear overview of all the different views within Scrintal. It is a logical, structured, and organised navigational layer that houses all menu elements.
